Katsuyo Aoki’s Ceramics

Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were his eyes:
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange...  The Tempest, Shakespeare

Miwa YANAGI

Today, you may have noticed, I have been mostly looking at fairytale photography…

This though, is the first collection I’ve found that really reflects the fear factor that these myths and legends can, and should, stir up.

Yanagi’s photos present fairytales as they should be: not casual entertainment, but dark and dangerous insights to our own mortality and corruptibility, to the notions of sin, revenge, responsibility, decrepitude…

Am I A Hypocrite For Wearing 5 Inch Heels?

Interesting thoughts on freedom of expression versus feminism from Gala Darling:

Am I A Hypocrite For Professing Radical Self Love While Wearing 5 Inch Heels? The Intersection Between Fashion, Personal Expression & Loving Who You Are www.galadarling.com.

‘Feminist writers have consistently argued that a woman’s attempt to cultivate her appearance makes her a dupe of fashion, the plaything of men, & thus a collaborator in her own oppression… Voices from around the world report a variety of conditions & systems under which only one thing holds constant – the universal second-class status of females. If there was ever a moment when the women of one culture had a responsibility toward their sisters in other nations, this is it. We should not waste time quibbling over what to wear to the conflict.’  Linda Scott
